Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the most streamed song within six months. It was a mixture of pop music and reggaeton not only brought renewed attention to reggaeton but it also brought attention towards Latin music in general. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs in Spanish generally, and four in 2016. In 2017, at the peak of the popularity of Despacito, 19 tracks mainly in Spanish made it to the Top 100. By 2020 it will have 41 hits in this category. Following the time that Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017, famous artists started to work with reggaeton artists. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated on MIA (2018) as did Madonna and Maluma. Madonna collaborated with Maluma for Medellin, 2019 The year 2000 saw a number of reggaeton stars were complaining about its inclination towards mainstream but a new generation, led by Rauw Alejandro, aimed to ensure that reggaeton was evolving. He incorporated electronic dance styles and others into his music.
